Another lazy day in this small town was proving to be the death of one Adria Frisch, bored photographer extraordinaire. It was bad enough that school was on vacation, but the kicker was that nobody seemed to want to hire a teenage girl whose only living relative was overseas and so far out of contact that even her daughter didn't know how she was doing. Normally on a day like today, she would walk around the city and take photos for her portfolio. Too bad her camera lens was cracked...

Today's mission involved finding a replacement lens, and it was proving to be quite a chore. The proper stores were selling them at prices way out of her league, the convenience stores had nothing that fit... she was beginning to get discouraged until she passed the pawn shop. She'd never been in before, having heard (and partially believed) that pawn shops were nothing but shady dealers dealing shady things. Today seemed to be a day for swallowing pride, though, so she went inside. But not after steeling herself properly.

And, of course, it was nowhere near what she thought it would be. She was immediately distracted from looking for a camera lens by the fact that the shelves were lined with everything. Seriously. This had to be the most random - but awesome - collection of stuff she'd ever seen in her life! With a smile, she started at one corner of the store, prepared to make her way all the way around. Besides, it wasn't like she had anything better to do today.

Working with Mr. Murdock wasn't the best experience, but what job was? The man hadn't been impressed when Chivy had shown up looking for work, and the tasks he assigned Chivy showed it. Chivy was fairly certain that some of the tiling hadn't seen the light of day since it was first installed, and he didn't even want to think about the bathroom. The last time he'd been so disgusted he had been working at an actual junk yard and been told to go looking for some ring that a lady had accidentally thrown away. At least that time he had come away from it feeling like he'd accomplished something. Knowing Mr. Murdock would probably just leave off cleaning everything until it got back into the same state again made it all seem so pointless.

In any case, he was done for the day — apparently there was a weekly poker game that was not to be missed — and smelling strongly of industrial-strength cleaners. He had been told firmly not to come back to the shop for several hours, at least, and since he was staying in a small corner of the attic... he was just wandering aimlessly.
